An employee of the Mykolaiv detention center was charged with abuse of power. The suspect faces up to eight years in prison and removal from office.

This was reported by the press service of the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.

The investigation established that in April 2024, while in one of the cells, the suspect, in the presence of other prisoners, struck a 68-year-old man several times. The victim was also in custody in a pre-trial detention center. The reason for the violence was the victim's violation of the ban on communication with another prisoner.

Law enforcement officers served a notice of suspicion to the employee of the Mykolaiv pre-trial detention center of abuse of power under Part 2 of Article 365 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The issue of choosing a measure of restraint and removing the suspect from office is being decided. If proven guilty, he faces imprisonment for a term of three to eight years. They may also be deprived of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years.

In January 2025, employees of the State Bureau of Investigation, in cooperation with the Security Service of Ukraine, completed a pre-trial investigation against the former commander of the Regional Directorate of the Territorial Defense Forces "South". He is suspected of forcing his subordinates to build a private house for him, abusing his official authority.

At the same time, in December last year, a police officer in Kherson was suspected of abuse of power and authority. The incident occurred when patrol officers responded to a call about a noise complaint in a house. However, instead of resolving the conflict peacefully, the policeman used physical force and started beating the man. If found guilty, the patrol officer faces up to eight years in prison.
