Modern cogeneration plants are to be built in Kherson. The project worth more than UAH 522 million should provide stable heat and electricity for the city during the war.
This is evidenced by the data of the DREAM digital recovery system.
Kherson is preparing to implement one of the key energy projects for the city - the installation of five cogeneration units on the basis of Kherson CHP JSC. The capacity of each unit will be 4.5 MW, and the total capacity will be 22.5 MW. According to the project description, they will operate on the principle of simultaneous production of electricity and heat, which will increase the efficiency of gas use and reduce losses in the power grid.
The project includes the installation of gas-piston internal combustion engines, exhaust heat recovery and engine cooling systems, waste heat boilers and auxiliary heat exchange equipment. The project also envisages the construction of a fuel preparation station for stable operation of the equipment, integration of the new facilities into the existing heating networks and connection to the power grid with the possibility of transferring excess electricity to the United Energy System of Ukraine.
All processes will be managed through an automated SCADA system that will allow monitoring and optimizing the modules' operation in real time. According to the developers, the new facilities should ensure uninterrupted heat supply to the residential sector, educational institutions, hospitals and strategic facilities in Kherson.
The total cost of the project is UAH 522.6 million. Funding is currently being sought.
The project is initiated by the Department of Territorial Development of the Kherson Regional State Administration.
It is also planned to build the first fully underground power system in Ukraine in the Kherson region. It should guarantee a stable power supply to the region, which suffers daily from shelling by the Russian army.
The project envisages the construction of 22 35 kV substations, which will be placed in buried reinforced concrete capsules protected from kamikaze drone attacks. Additionally, 620 km of cable lines will be laid to protect the power system from artillery and missile attacks.
