Kherson region will receive over UAH 130 million of state subvention for the construction of shelters in educational institutions in 2026.
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved the allocation of funds between the regions. The funding will be used to create safe conditions in schools and kindergartens.
According to the document, three communities in the Kherson region will receive the money:
In total, we are talking about more than UAH 130 million for the region.
At the same time, other regions of Ukraine will also receive subventions. In particular, significant funds are envisaged for Zaporizhzhia Oblast (over UAH 390 million for the Zaporizhzhia community), Sumy Oblast (over UAH 320 million for the Sumy community) and Kharkiv Oblast, where funding has been distributed among several communities, including Kharkiv, Lozova and others.
Funds are also provided for two communities in Mykolaiv Oblast:
In total, the region will receive about UAH 100 million to equip shelters in educational institutions.
In the Odesa Oblast for two communities:
In addition, communities in the Lviv, Vinnytsia, Volyn, Rivne and Chernihiv Oblasts will receive subventions.
The total amount of the subvention in Ukraine exceeds UAH 2 billion. The government emphasizes that the main goal is to ensure a safe educational process for children in times of war.
Earlier, Intent wrote that in Kherson, a court granted investigators temporary access to documentation on the construction of radiation shelters for schools. The case concerns possible misappropriation or embezzlement of budget funds.
In addition, it was reported that radiation shelters for schools have not yet been built in Kherson. Almost 400 million hryvnias of EU funds were spent on the construction, and contractors received tens of millions for poor quality work.
Roman Mrochko, the former head of the Kherson MBA, engaged contractors to build the underground schools, which were probably managed by a single center for management and distribution of funds. The firms were selected without using an electronic procurement system.
A year later, none of the schools has been built, and work has not even begun on one of the sites. The contractors received almost 70 million hryvnias for poor quality work and inflated prices for materials, the money coming from EU aid.
