Court in Odesa region fines border violators UAH 4 million in seven months

In January-July 2024, the Rozdilnyansky District Court of Odesa Oblast fined border violators a total of UAH 4 million 223.7 thousand.

According to the court 's press service, in the first seven months of this year, judges considered a total of 616 cases of border violations.

The court also noted that voluntarily fined citizens paid UAH 2 million 162.8 thousand. For comparison, during the same period in 2023, the Rozdilnyansky District Court of Odesa Oblast received 208 (two hundred and eight) cases and recovered UAH 1 million 221.5 thousand in favor of the state, of which UAH 214.2 thousand was paid voluntarily.

Since the introduction of martial law in Ukraine, men aged 18 to 60 have been banned from crossing the border. Illegal border crossing is either the fact of crossing the border by a person who does not have the right (a man aged 18 to 60 who has no reason to leave) or a violation of the rules of border crossing. Illegal border crossing entails liability as provided by law. This liability may be administrative or criminal depending on each individual case.

The court noted that it was a case of liability under Article 204-1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (attempt to illegally cross the state border of Ukraine outside the state border crossing point).

The sanction of Article 204-1(1) of the Code of Administrative Offenses provides for a fine in the amount of UAH 3.4 thousand to UAH 8.5 thousand or administrative arrest for up to fifteen days, with confiscation of the instruments and means of committing the offense.

The sanction of Article 204-1(2) of the Code of Administrative Offenses provides for a fine in the amount of UAH 8,500 to UAH 13,600 or administrative arrest for a term of ten to fifteen days, with confiscation of the instruments and means of committing the offense.
