Employees of the Pivdenne municipality will now work reduced hours from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. due to the heat wave and a broken air conditioning system.

According to Mig, a TV and radio company founded by the city council, the temperature in some offices has reached 40 degrees Celsius.

City Council Secretary Ihor Chugunnikov told reporters that the air conditioning system broke down in late June and has not yet been repaired.

"Since the system will be repaired at public expense, we need to follow the appropriate procedures. We have inspected the system and allocated funds for design work on the reconstruction of this system, so we are now solving this problem," said the city council secretary.

He also said that some officials are trying to escape with fans they buy at their own expense, but in this heat, the fans are ineffective.

The climate control system is scheduled to be repaired by next summer. As for winter operations, the malfunction of the air conditioners will not affect them, as the city council building is supplied with heat from the district heating system.

The maximum air temperature in Odesa region, for example, on July 26 ranged from 31.2 degrees Celsius to 39.5 degrees Celsius. However, this record was not broken in Odesa on July 26. The average temperature in the city reached 33 degrees Celsius.

However, it should be noted that the record of 35 degrees has already been broken and a new one set. Thus, in August 2023, the air temperature in Odesa broke the record for the entire history of meteorological observations over the past 120 years - 36.4 degrees Celsius in the shade.
