Apartments caught fire in Chornomorsk, Odesa region, as a result of Russian attack

On the night of October 8, during the Russian attack on Odesa region in Chornomorsk, apartments on several floors of an apartment building caught fire.

According to the head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, Oleh Kiper, Russian aggressors terrorized Odesa region with attack drones from midnight to dawn, for four hours.

"In Chornomorsk, as a result of the attack, apartments on the 4th, 5th and 6th floors caught fire. Our firefighters promptly extinguished the fire with an area of 100 m2," the official said.

He also said that in Odesa district, the ceiling and walls of an administrative and production building were damaged and caught fire, and the fire was extinguished over an area of 50 m2. Another drone crashed in an open area without detonation.

"Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries," added Kiper.

As it turned out later, one of the apartments that was damaged by the shelling belonged to volunteer Kira Rodkina.

"Folks, who can provide a consultant on how to restore housing (and life, too) because of the hit of a shahed into the house. There were so many parties on that balcony, so many memories and warmth. So much life and emotion," the volunteer wrote on Facebook.

According to the Air Force of Ukraine, on the night of October 8, 2024, the enemy attacked Odesa region with two Iskander-M ballistic missiles from the occupied Crimea, as well as 19 attack UAVs from Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Russia. As a result of the air battle, all enemy drones were eliminated in Odesa, Mykolaiv, Dnipro, Vinnytsia and Ternopil regions: 18 were shot down by aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, mobile fire groups and electronic warfare of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, and one more attack UAV returned to Russia.

Earlier, Oleksiy Kuleba , Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine and Minister of Community and Territorial Development, said that the Russian attack killed one person and injured five other foreign nationals, crew members. The Russians also attacked the Palau-flagged civilian ship OPTIMA, which was in port in Odesa region.

The day before, on October 6, Russians fired on the civilian shipPARESA flying the flag of St. Kitts and Nevis, which was loaded with corn for export. It happened near one of the berths in the Pivdennyi seaport. It was the 20th civilian vessel to be damaged by Russian attacks.

Russian occupation forces are shelling Odesa region with missiles and drones almost daily. Thus, on the night of October 3, the Russians attacked the energy infrastructure in the Ivanivska community of Berezivskyi district of Odesa region.

On the night of October 2, the Izmail district of Odesa region became the target of the occupiers. The enemy sent attack drones there. Numerous explosions were heard in the region. The Ukrainian air defense system was engaged in combat operations. Due to the attack, the Orlivka checkpoint in Odesa region temporarily suspended its crossing operations. The attacker targeted port and border infrastructure. Two truck drivers were wounded in the attack, one of them a Turkish citizen. The injured were hospitalized, their condition is assessed as moderate, and doctors are providing the necessary assistance.
