An engineer at a defense plant in the Mykolaiv region was convicted of treason

An engineer at one of the defense enterprises in the Mykolaiv region passed information about air defense systems, military facilities, and defense contracts to Russian intelligence agencies. The court found him guilty of treason.

According tothe Officeof the Prosecutor General, in July 2024, the man voluntarily agreed to cooperate with a representative of the aggressor state.

To maintain secrecy, they communicated via Telegram and a specially configured digital channel with a feature that automatically deleted messages after they were read.

In August–September 2024, the convicted man carried out tasks assigned by his Russian handler and passed on information regarding the locations of air defense units, military personnel from the special transport service, and other military formations.

In addition, he provided data on the locations of military equipment and ammunition depots in Mykolaiv and the surrounding region, critical infrastructure facilities, as well as the fulfillment of state defense contracts at a defense industry enterprise.

According to prosecutors, the information provided could have been used by Russia to plan missile and drone strikes and to undermine the defense capabilities of the Mykolaiv region.

According to the text of the ruling by the Ingulsky District Court of Mykolaiv, the physical evidence in the case also included Russian rubles seized from the convicted man. In total, law enforcement officials seized 80,160 rubles.

Earlier, another Mykolaiv resident was convicted of treason. He had provided Russian officials with the coordinates of Ukrainian military personnel and military facilities.

According to the investigation, the man also received money in exchange for the information he provided.
