In Mykolaiv, a traitor was punished for surrendering Ukrainian Armed Forces positions

<span> </span>A resident of Mykolaiv was convicted of treason. He passed on the coordinates of Ukrainian military personnel and military facilities to the Russians and received money in return.

The verdict was handed down by the Mykolaiv Central District Court.

According to the case file, in the spring of 2023, the man contacted a Russian citizen via Telegram, who instructed him to gather information on the locations of Ukrainian Armed Forces units, critical infrastructure, and enterprises supporting Ukraine’s defense. The defendant sent his contact the coordinates, screenshots of maps, photographs, and descriptions of facilities in Mykolaiv and the surrounding region.

Later, the Russian introduced him to another handler. That handler asked him to verify the information, take photographs of military facilities, and send the coordinates. 

According to the investigation, the man independently searched for the necessary locations using Google Maps, transmitted addresses, and provided information about the possible deployment of Ukrainian military personnel.

The court established that the man received 5,100 Russian rubles for one such “assignment.” After converting the money to a Ukrainian bank card, he received over 2,000 hryvnias, which he withdrew from an ATM that same day.

He was detained on May 4, 2023. During a search, law enforcement officers also found 165 rounds of ammunition of various calibers, which the man had been illegally storing at home.

In court, the defendant pleaded not guilty. He claimed that he did not know exactly to whom he was sending the information and that he allegedly received the money from the sale of numismatic and decorative items. He also denied illegally possessing most of the seized rounds of ammunition.

However, the court found these explanations unconvincing. His guilt was confirmed by Telegram correspondence, data from his cell phone, bank transfers, forensic findings, and other evidence examined during the trial.

Recently, another court in Kherson sentenced a former ATB security guard and member of the “Shield” civilian militia to 15 years in prison for treason. After the occupation of Kakhovka, the man began working for the “police” force established by the Russians.
