The maximum air temperature in Odesa region on July 26 ranged from 31.2 degrees Celsius to 39.5 degrees Celsius.

This was reported by the Black and Azov Sea Hydrometeorological Center.

According to weather forecasters, the hottest day was in Sarata - 39.5 degrees Celsius, and the coldest - in Pivdenne - 31.2 degrees. Thus, Sarata and Bolhrad broke Odesa's temperature record, which was set in 1985. Back then, forecasters saw 35 degrees Celsius on thermometers.

However, on July 26, this record was not broken in Odesa. The average temperature in the city reached 33 degrees Celsius.

However, it should be noted that the record of 35 degrees has already been broken and a new one has been set. Thus, in August 2023, the air temperature in Odesa broke the record for the entire history of meteorological observations over the past 120 years - 36.4 degrees Celsius in the shade.

In the Odesa and Mykolaiv regions, the prolonged heat and lack of rain caused the condition of late crops to deteriorate. In some areas, the crops had to be mowed or re-discovered due to wilting, disease spread and stunted growth.

Meanwhile, Turkey also recorded a new temperature record for continental Europe - 50.5 degrees Celsius. This figure was recorded in the Silopi district of Şırnak province.

The previous record of 48.8 degrees Celsius was set in August 2021 in Sicily, Italy, and officially confirmed by the World Meteorological Organization in 2024. Prior to that, the record had been held by the Greek cities of Athens and Elefsina (+48 degrees) since 1977.

Europe, Asia, the United States and the Middle East are experiencing a wave of extreme heat. According to Copernicus, the surface temperature of the Mediterranean and Aegean Sea is 3°C higher than the average for 1992-2020. Forecasters warn that the extreme weather will continue.
