A resident of the Kherson region was sentenced to 15 years in prison for high treason and participation in the war against Ukraine. The man voluntarily joined Russian troops in the occupied territories of Sumy and Donetsk regions.

This is evidenced by the verdict of the Galician District Court of Lviv.

According to the court, the accused, a citizen of Ukraine, voluntarily joined the 3rd Assault Company of the Russian Airborne Forces, where he underwent military training and mastered the skills of combat, use of small arms, assault and offense. From June to September 2025, he was in the temporarily occupied territories of Sumy and Donetsk regions, performing combat missions against the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other Ukrainian formations.

The accused performed the duties of a rifleman, ensuring the combat activities of the Russian regiment and the self-proclaimed DNR in their locations.

The man had a previous criminal record: On March 17, 2016, the Novokakhovka City Court of Kherson Region sentenced him to 9 years in prison for premeditated murder.

During the trial, the accused fully admitted his guilt. The court sentenced him to 15 years with confiscation of all his property.

As reported by the CJR, the man was taken prisoner in the Sumy region. Losev is a resident of Tavriysk, Kherson region. He said that on July 11, 2025, he signed a contract with the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and fought as part of the 137th Guards Parachute Regiment of the Ryazan Regiment of the 106th Guards Airborne Division.

According to Oleksandr Losev, he was forced to sign the contract after the occupiers "blamed" him for the murder of his wife. He and other prisoners were severely tortured in the detention center. The occupiers allegedly forced him to abuse other prisoners as well."I agreed to sign a contract to be captured. Only former convicts served with me," he said.

According to Tavriysk residents who knew Losev personally, the man could have killed his wife himself and was probably involved in the death of another woman.

The Odesa Court of Appeal also upheld the court's verdict that found a former police officer from Mariupol guilty of treason in absence. He, along with Russian military and law enforcement officers, detained, tortured and intimidated residents of the occupied Kherson region.
