The Odesa Court of Appeal upheld the court's verdict, which found a former police officer from Mariupol guilty in the absence of treason and committing a war crime.

According to the Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office, the appeal was filed by the defendant's defense team.

Prosecutors of the Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office have fully proved the guilt of a former law enforcement officer from Donetsk Oblast who defected to the enemy and committed a war crime during the occupation of Kherson Oblast.

The court sentenced the 41-year-old defendant to 15 years in prison with confiscation of all his property. Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the ex-military officer from Mariupol, who retired from law enforcement in 2014, voluntarily went on the run from the enemy and joined a military unit of the Russian Armed Forces. He received the call sign "Greek" and was appointed deputy commander - head of the garrison of the occupation forces in the village of Lazurne, Skadovsk district, Kherson region.

The area of responsibility of the pseudo-commander included the settlements of Lazurne, Prymorske, Kruhloozeryka, Zaliznyi Port, as well as part of the Black Sea Biosphere Reserve.

The convict took an active part in forcing representatives of local authorities and self-government to cooperate with the occupation administration. He obtained, systematized and reported to the enemy leadership intelligence information about the defense potential of Ukraine and the social situation in the southeastern regions of the country.

Together with Russian military and law enforcement officers, Grek detained, tortured and intimidated residents of the temporarily occupied territory.

In particular, in April 2022, he, together with the Russian military, detained the head of one of the village councils of Skadovsk district and a local businessman. The men were held in the basement of a boarding house, where they were systematically beaten, threatened with death and shot over their heads, imitating execution. They demanded to provide information about pro-Ukrainian activists and local residents who could cooperate and provide useful information to the enemy.
