Police officers, with the support of fighters from the "Scorpion" Rapid Response and Special Operations Unit of the Military Law Enforcement Service, detained the commander of a security platoon at one of the military units in the Odesa region.

This was reported by the press office of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Odesa region.

The soldier is suspected of accepting $5,000 in bribes to ensure that a man—who was wanted by the Territorial Recruitment Center for violating military registration rules—would have his case resolved. Specifically, he was accused of influencing the relevant officials at the Territorial Recruitment Center and the Military Registration Service to remove the client from the wanted list and subsequently arrange for his fictitious employment at a critical infrastructure enterprise. This arrangement would have served as grounds for deferment from mobilization.

Police informed the detainee that he was suspected of abuse of influence. The court ordered the suspect’s pretrial detention, with the right to post bail. If found guilty, the security platoon commander could face imprisonment for a term of three to eight years, along with confiscation of property.

Previously, Gevorg Bznuni, the general director of the Berezivka Central Hospital and a city council member, was found guilty of abuse of influence for accepting a bribe of 10,000 in exchange for declaring a conscript unfit for military service. However, on April 9, a plea agreement was reached between the prosecutor of the Dobroslav District Prosecutor’s Office and Gevorg Bznuni. The court approved the agreement on May 27and sentencedthe doctor and city council member to a fine of 93,500 hryvnias.

Meanwhile, the Peresypsky District Court of Odesa found the official responsible for technical supervision of the major renovation of the premises of the consultative and diagnostic department of the Odesa Regional Clinical Cancer Center guilty of abuse of office. By abusing her official position, with the aim of obtaining an unlawful benefit from the private company “Vasolbudstroy,” she failed to verify how the work was being carried out.
