In occupied Simeiz, the popular natural landmark known as the “Maiden’s Rock” has been closed to visitors due to the unsafe condition of the stairs. At the same time, the so-called occupation administration has distanced itself from the site, as it is not under the jurisdiction of any government agency.
This was reported by Golos Kryma.
Meanwhile, the city “authorities” rejected an attempt by local residents to repair the staircase on their own.
According to the publication, the natural landmark is not included within the boundaries of the adjacent “Coastal Aquatic Complex near the Diva Rock and Kishka Mountain” nature reserve and does not fall under the jurisdiction of environmental agencies.
However, according to a source cited by journalists, the possibility of restoring the stairs depends on the involvement of a Russian investor—the regional public organization “Freeride,” which previously organized sports tournaments there. It is known that the sports organization, together with the so-called “acting head” of the Yalta Territorial Administration, Svitlana Shevchenko, has begun developing a project to improve the access paths using its own funds.
Diva Rock is a coastal limestone cliff in the Black Sea, located near the village of Simeiz on the Southern Coast of Crimea. It is 51 meters high. It was formed when a gigantic boulder broke off from the Main Range of the Crimean Mountains and gradually slid into the water—a process that continues to this day. The rock is one of the region’s most famous natural landmarks and adorns the coat of arms and flag of Simeiz.
