In Kherson region, investigators of the National Police of Ukraine have completed an investigation into a man who defrauded a woman of more than $3,000 by promising to "help" her son avoid mobilization.

According to law enforcement, the suspect is a 24-year-old resident of the Khmelnytsky region who temporarily lived in Kherson and rented a house from the victim.

During the conversation, he found out that the woman had a son of military age and convinced her that he could "solve the issue" through his contacts in the TCC and the military medical commission. The man said he had a medical degree and allegedly worked in the MEC.

He asked for $3,200 for his services. In addition, another 8000 hryvnias was allegedly for renting an apartment in Odesa for the woman's son while the documents were being processed.

After receiving the money, the man disappeared: he left the apartment without warning and stopped contacting the police.

The police established his whereabouts and served him a notice of suspicion. The suspect's actions were classified under articles on fraud and abuse of influence.

The pre-trial investigation is now complete, and the indictment has been sent to court. The offender faces up to five years in prison.

Earlier, Intent wrote about how schemes to evade mobilization through courts and guardianship authorities were at the center of a criminal investigation in Kherson region. Law enforcement officials suspect that decisions in family cases could be used as a tool to obtain a deferral from service.

The court also considered the case of a native of Kherson region, who was accused of evading mobilization and inflicting grievous bodily harm on a military recruiting officer. The incident occurred in the spring of 2024 in a dormitory in Ivanychi district and almost ended in tragedy.

As a reminder, the Kherson City Territorial Community has officially approved the Program for Supporting Mobilization-related Activities for 2026.
