The court considered the case of a native of Kherson region, who was accused of evading mobilization and inflicting grievous bodily harm on a soldier. The incident took place in the spring of 2024 in a dormitory in Ivanychi district and almost ended in tragedy.

This is evidenced by the verdict of the Ivanychi District Court of Volyn Oblast.

The judge found the man guilty of assaulting a TCC employee. According to the investigation, the man ignored the summons, and when representatives of the recruitment center came to his home, he stabbed one of them in the stomach during a conversation.

As stated in the verdict of March 12, the day before, the man had passed a military medical examination and was found fit for service, but did not appear at the recruiting center on the appointed day. On March 21, at about 16:00, they came to find out the reasons for his absence - that's when the attack happened.

As a result, the soldier sustained serious injuries, including a penetrating stab wound with damage to his internal organs.

In court, the accused explained that after the occupation of Kherson region, he went abroad and later returned to Ukraine and lives as an internally displaced person in Novovolynsk. According to him, during the visit of the TCC employees, he was stressed, talking on the phone with his wife, took a knife and started cutting his arm, and he does not remember further events clearly. The man assured that he could not explain how he had wounded the soldier, pleaded guilty and repented.

The victim, in turn, noted that he acted calmly and did not provoke the conflict, and after the attack, he got to the car that took him to the hospital on his own.

The court found the man guilty of intentional grievous bodily harm and sentenced him to five years in prison, but commuted the sentence to two years of probation.

In February, a resident of the Kherson region got lost near the border while trying to enter Romania outside of checkpoints. He was found unconscious by border guards and rescuers, who helped him and took him to the hospital.
