A film about a soldier from the Kherson region will be screened in Latvia

On September 30, a documentary film titled “Ukrainian Sheriffs,” about the residents of Stara Zburivka in the Kherson region, will be screened in Riga.

According to Latvian media reports, proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the repair unit of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, where one of the film’s protagonists, Volodymyr Rudkovsky, serves.

The documentary “Ukrainian Sheriffs,” directed by Roman Bondarchuk, chronicles life in Stara Zburivka in the Kherson region. The film features two local residents— Viktor Marunyak and Volodymyr Rudkovsky—who helped their fellow villagers and maintained order in the community.

In the film, Rudkovsky drives a yellow “Zhiguli,” resolves disputes, and helps his neighbors. After the full-scale war began, he joined the Ukrainian Armed Forces and is currently serving in a maintenance unit.

Another protagonist of the film is Viktor Marunyak, the former head of Stara Zburivka. After Russian troops entered the village, he was taken prisoner and tortured.

Later, Marunyak left the occupied territory and arrived in Latvia, where he underwent medical treatment. He now lives in Germany, is writing a book about his native village, and hopes to return to Ukraine.

The screening will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the “K.Suns” movie theater. After the film, viewers will be shown video interviews with both protagonists. Donations to support the unit can also be made through the ziedot.lv platform.
