A decline in the cost of the basic basket of goods was recorded in the Odesa region

In August 2026, consumer prices for food in the Odesa region fell by 1.7% compared with the previous month. The main factor behind this decline was a seasonal drop in the cost of fruits and vegetables.

This was reported by the Main Department of Statistics in the Odesa region. 

The overall inflation index in the region stood at 100.1%, which is fully in line with the national average.

Vegetables saw the sharpest price drops. Specifically, tomatoes fell by 50.0%, sweet peppers by 41.5%, carrots by 35.4%, eggplants by 31.8%, white cabbage by 31.0%, and beets by 24.6%. At the same time, mushrooms became 8.5% more expensive.

Fruit prices fell by 11.7%. Specifically, grapes fell by 27.6%, stone fruits by 27.3%, watermelons by 26.0%, and lemons by 16.5%. Conversely, oranges and dried fruit became more expensive by 4.7% and 3.3%, respectively.

Prices for vegetable oils and fats fell by 0.2%. Butter became 0.8% cheaper, and margarine fell by 0.5%.

Prices for fish and fish products rose. Specifically, frozen fish fillets rose by 5.3%, seafood by 4.0%, herring by 3.1%, and frozen fish by 3.0%.

Prices for milk, cheese, and eggs rose by 1.9%. Among these, high-fat milk (up 5.3%) and soft, full-fat cheeses (up 4.8%) saw the largest price increases.

Prices for bread and baked goods rose by 0.9%. Vareniki became 4.0% more expensive, rolled oats by 2.9%, buckwheat groats by 2.5%, and wheat flour by 2.2%. At the same time, dry cookies became 1.9% cheaper, and shortbread cookies—1.3%.

The sharpest price increases were seen in ready-to-eat meat products (+5.5%) and pork (+4.0%), as well as beef semi-finished products (+2.1%) and cooked-smoked sausages (+1.9%). At the same time, the cost of first-grade sausages and sardelki fell (by 2.9%), as did prices for certain chicken parts (by 2.2%) and first-grade cooked sausage (by 1.7%).

As reported by Intent, fuel prices rose the most in the Odesa region over the past eight months. Prices increased by 5.6% compared to December 2025.
