Crimean political prisoner Marat Batirov, who spent more than six months in solitary confinement while held captive in Russia, wrote a series of poems. He dedicated some of them to his friends and his grandson.

Marat Batirov had been writing poetry even before his unlawful detention by the Russians. He wrote poems about Crimea, love, and life. Behind bars, he continued to write despite the harsh conditions of his detention.

In his poetry, he speaks of injustice, the cruelty of war, and the strength of the human spirit, and expresses sincere gratitude to his friends who stood by him during the most difficult period of his life. In a poem dedicated to his grandson, he urges him never to lose his human dignity, strength of spirit, or faith in life,no matter the circumstances .

Marat Batirov was born in Akmesdzhit (Simferopol). He has lived almost his entire life in the village of Kyzyltash (Krasnokamyanka) in the Feodosia District. On October 2, 2025, he was abducted right from his own apartment and taken to an unknown location.

For six months, his whereabouts remained unknown. According to Eskender Bariev, Chairman of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, 19 inquiries were sent to pretrial detention centers in both the temporarily occupied Crimea and the border regions of the Russian Federation, and all of them were answered with the statement that he was not being held there. It was not until April 3 that the Crimean Tatar Resource Center learned that Batyrov was being held at Pretrial Detention Center No. 2 in Akmesdzhit (Simferopol).

Incommunicado detention is a regime in which a detained or arrested person is held in complete isolation from the outside world, with the state or authorized bodies concealing the fact of the detention, denying access to a lawyer, and prohibiting contact with relatives.

Earlier, Refat Chubarov, Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, exposed misinformation in reports by propaganda outlets regarding the alleged recent detention of a female spy by the FSB. He concluded that the arrest had taken place earlier and that the detainee had been held in complete isolation from the outside world the entire time.
