In Odesa region, police exposed a group of Moldovan citizens involved in the illegal transportation of men abroad.
According to the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Oblast, the group was uncovered because one of its members tried to rob a client.
<span>He met with a man who wanted to travel abroad, offering to take a car ride and discuss the details of the trip. After a while, the car stopped and the driver got into the passenger's seat. Threatening him with a knife, he forcibly took his bag, which contained $6,000 and personal belongings. The victim managed to escape by jumping out of the car.</span>
On the same day, the police, together with officers of the 26th Border Guard Detachment, detained one of the group members on the ring road. Later, the other one was detained in Odesa. Police investigators have now served both detainees with a notice of suspicion of robbery committed under martial law. The court imposed on them a pre-trial restraint in the form of detention.
Earlier, police and a Security Service of Ukraine officer detained two men from Podil district in Odesa region on suspicion of organizing the illegal transportation of men who are prohibited from leaving the country during martial law outside official checkpoints. The 52-year-old detainee was a mechanic-driver of a sanitary transport depot of one of the municipal medical enterprises. He used an official ambulance and a medical worker's uniform for his illegal activities.
The court imposed on the suspects a custodial measure of restraint with the right to be released on bail. If found guilty, the men face imprisonment for a term of seven to nine years with disqualification to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years and confiscation of property.
