Police in the Odesa region have detained two residents of Izmail on suspicion of setting fire to a car and a post office.
According to the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Oblast, the attackers acted during the curfew, which is not yet punishable by law.
At the end of October, in one of the villages of Safianivka community, a BMW of an Odesa resident burned down, which the owner had left on the street due to damage. The fire was extinguished by local residents before firefighters arrived. Having received the conclusion of experts from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine that the fire was caused by arson, the police launched criminal proceedings and identified the offender. Investigators and operatives found out that the car was set on fire by a 25-year-old local resident to take revenge on an Odesa resident for insulting his friend while he was resting in a village cafe. The property damage caused to the car owner by the arsonist is almost 700 thousand hryvnias.
Last week, a post office window caught fire in Izmail. Responding to the fire alarm, the State Emergency Service quickly extinguished the fire, preventing it from spreading, and reported the arson to the police. Law enforcement officers conducted a series of investigative and search activities and found that a 38-year-old resident of the city was involved in the crime. The man committed the arson at the request of an unknown person when he was looking for easy money on the Internet. The amount of damage caused to the state-owned enterprise is being established.
Both men were served a notice of suspicion of intentional destruction of another's property by arson, in particular, which caused large-scale property damage. If proven guilty in court, they face up to ten years in prison.
