A resident of Skadovsk was sentenced in absentia to 15 years in prison for treason. According to the investigation, during the occupation of the Kherson region, he helped the Russian military identify pro-Ukrainian local residents.

This was reported by the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office.

In court, prosecutors proved that in March 2022, the man established contact with representatives of the aggressor state who occupied the Skadovsk district. He agitated locals to support Russia and tried to create a positive image of the occupiers.

In particular, the convict distributed Russian "humanitarian aid" and collected personal data under this pretext. He passed the collected information to representatives of the Russian Federation and indicated which of the locals supported Ukraine or could resist the occupation.

The man threatened those who disagreed with his agitation with imprisonment or physical violence by the Russian military. On his instructions, searches, illegal detentions and so-called "preventive conversations" were conducted in the homes of local residents.

The court found him guilty of high treason committed under martial law and sentenced him to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The verdict was passed in absentia. The man will serve his sentence after his actual arrest.

Earlier, a resident of Kherson region was sentenced to 15 years in prison for high treason and participation in a conspiracy against Ukraine. The man voluntarily joined Russian troops in the occupied territories of Sumy and Donetsk regions.

The Odesa Court of Appeal also upheld the court's verdict that found a former police officer from Mariupol guilty of treason in absence. He, along with Russian military and law enforcement officers, detained, tortured and intimidated residents of the occupied Kherson region.
