Renaming Streets and Decolonization of Toponyms
Street renaming is the process of changing the names of city streets, alleys, and other toponyms. On the territory of Ukraine, this process is often associated with decolonization — the replacement of names derived from Russian history and culture with names that reflect Ukrainian identity and honor national heroes. Street renaming is an important part of establishing national memory and symbolic liberation from colonial legacy, particularly relevant in the southern regions of Ukraine.
