Activists of the NGO Decolonization.Ukraine have once again updated their map with the number of streets that they believe should be renamed, reducing their number in Odesa region from 198 to 194.
Odesa region continues to rank fifth according to activists' estimates.
In Mykolaiv and Kherson regions, the situation has not changed - 71 and 63 place names respectively, while in Kyiv region the number of place names decreased from 261 to 256, and in Vinnytsia region from 255 to 254.
The first place is held by Zaporizhzhia region, where the number of place names has not decreased since April and amounts to 1 thousand. The second place goes to Kharkiv region with 282 place names, the third to Kyiv region, and the fourth is held by Vinnytsia region. Activists have always noted that the list is not exhaustive and will be adjusted in the future.
Electronic public discussions on the renaming of two streets, a lane and a park in Odesa, which had been ongoing since May 1, ended on July 1 with the citizens supporting the renaming of three place names.
They did not support the proposal to rename Kanatny Lane in Odesa's Prymorskyi district after Romanian poet Mihai Eminescu. The renaming was supported by 169 out of 503 people who took part in the poll, and opposed by 334.
When the map was adjusted in April, Odesa region moved from fifth place to fourth. This happened because Kyiv and Kharkiv regions tied for second place. In both regions, 283 streets and alleys needed to be decolonized.
Earlier, the Department of International Cooperation of Culture and Marketing of the Odesa City Council reported that the city council does not plan to rename some streets and alleys of the city named after Russian cultural figures, politicians and military.
