Monuments and Memorials
A monument is a structure or memorial dedicated to commemorating the memory of outstanding people, historical events, or the struggle for independence. On Ukrainian territory, especially in Odesa and Mykolaiv, the topic of monuments is closely connected with decommunization and a reinterpretation of historical heritage — in particular with the demolition of Soviet monuments and the establishment of new monuments to Ukrainian heroes and cultural figures. Discussions about monuments reflect public debates about national identity and historical justice.
