Indictments and court cases
An indictment is a procedural document by which the investigation or prosecutor's office brings an official charge against a person for committing a criminal offense after the completion of the pre-trial investigation. It sets forth the legally significant circumstances of the crime, presents evidence, and provides a legal qualification of the act. An indictment is drawn up only if the investigation has gathered sufficient evidence for prosecution and there are no grounds for closing the criminal proceedings. This document serves as the basis for initiating a court trial of the case.
