An ecological catastrophe is an extremely rapid and dangerous destructive change in environmental conditions that causes enormous damage to nature, leading to the death of plants, animals, and humans. Such catastrophes can have local or global scale. In Ukraine, ecological catastrophes are often associated with military activities, man-made accidents, and anthropogenic impact on aquatic ecosystems, coastlines, and soils.
