Decommunization in Ukraine
Decommunization is a set of measures aimed at freeing society from the influence of communist ideology and Soviet heritage. In Ukraine, the process includes renaming streets and squares, dismantling monuments from the Soviet era, and reinterpreting historical legacy. Decommunization is being carried out particularly actively in southern regions, notably in Odesa and Odesa Oblast, where place names are being changed and symbols of the Soviet past are being removed. This is part of a broader process of Ukraine's decolonization and the assertion of national identity.
