Akkerman is the historical name of the city of Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi in southern Ukraine in Odesa Oblast, located at the mouth of the Dniester River where it flows into the Black Sea. The city is famous for its medieval fortress, which is an architectural and historical monument of the region. Akkerman held important strategic significance in the history of Budjak and Bessarabia, changing rulers over the centuries. Today, this city remains a center of cultural heritage and tourist attraction in southern Ukraine.
