Odesa karateka Terliuga dedicates World Championship bronze to her family

Anzhelika Terliuga returned to the world karate elite after her maternity leave, Chornomorets lost second place in the First League, and chess players competed in Odesa at the Heller Memorial. Read more about these and other events in the digest of sports events from Intent.

- Anzhelika Terliuga , a resident of Odesa and silver medalist of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics (category up to 55 kg) , lost in the quarterfinals to tatami owner Ahlam Youssef, however, the tournament scheme allowed her to compete for a bronze medal. In the match on Sunday, the Ukrainian defeated the second number of the world ranking, Chilean Valentina Toro Menezes, and won a medal!

- Anzhelika dedicated her success to her family. We would like to remind you that quite recently, in December 2024, she gave birth to a daughter. Since returning from maternity leave, Anzhelika has already had two significant successes - a silver at the World Games in July and this bronze.

- Another medal for Ukraine was won by Andrii Zaplitnyi, who finished second in the 75 kg category.

- Chornomorets Odesa ended the autumn part of the First League season with a crushing defeat away from home.

- Vorskla Poltava scored twice at the beginning of the match, and then not only did not lose the advantage, but also consolidated it in the middle of the second half. This match in Poltava, like the previous one, was interrupted for a considerable time due to an air raid. - A blitz (rapid chess) chess tournament dedicated to the memory of Yukhym Heller and timed to the hundredth anniversary of his birth took place in Odesa.

Yukhim Geller (1925-1998) was a Soviet chess player born in Odesa, an international grandmaster, 2-time USSR champion and 6-time participant in tournaments for the title of world champion.
