At the request of the Ukrainian side, the UN Security Council will meet today, March 23, to discuss the massive rocket attacks by Russia. The meeting will be chaired by the United States.

This was reported by Ukrinform.

The meeting will be chaired by U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau and will begin at 15:00 Eastern American time, which corresponds to 21:00 Kyiv time. The meeting will feature presentations by representatives of the UN Secretariat, including Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo and a delegate from the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

As a reminder, in August Ukraine initiated an emergency convocation of the United Nations Security Council in response to another escalation of terror by Russia, which led to the loss of life and destruction in Kyiv. The UN Security Council condemned the strikes on Kyiv by the Russian Federation. The death toll from the combined attack on Kyiv on the night of July 31 has preliminarily reached 31 people, including three children. Another 159 people were injured, including 16 children.

Earlier, a delegation of the World Food Program (WFP) arrived in Kherson region on a working visit. The group included Carl Scow, Deputy Executive Director of the organization, and Richard Ragan, Head of the WFP Country Office in Ukraine.

The key purpose of the visit was to discuss the current humanitarian situation in the region and to agree on a strategy for action in the event of a ceasefire. During the meeting, representatives of the regional authorities emphasized the critical importance of international support for frontline communities, the agricultural sector and internally displaced persons.
