Residents of the occupied town of Oleshky are currently trapped. The occupiers have completely blockaded the town and surrounding villages and are using the people as human shields.

This was reported by Mykola Kuleba.

According to him, Russian troops are hiding military equipment in the yards of local residents and are also living in their homes. This is being done to prevent Ukraine from striking the occupiers’ resources.

Kuleba noted that there are still about 2,000 people in Oleshky. In the surrounding areas, there are up to 7,000 residents. These people are trapped without food and with no way to leave. They risk stepping on landmines simply by going outside. Many of those who tried to leave the region have been killed. Some stepped on landmines or were struck by drones, while others were shot by the occupiers.

Earlier,American journalist Zarina Zabriskie published a localresident’s account of the humanitarian crisis in Oleshky. The man said that the city has been without centralized electricity and water supplies for several years. People are forced to draw water from wells. According to eyewitnesses, the food shortage has reached a critical level. For breakfast, six people share half a liter of goat’s milk diluted with water, and for lunch, they each get three hard-boiled eggs and two zucchini fritters. Sources say there is virtually no flour, grains, or other staple foods.
