In Kherson, local journalist Olena Hnitetska was injured as a result of a Russian attack. She was at home when a drone struck her house.
This was reported by the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine.
The attack occurred around 8:00 p.m. on August 10. According to Gnitsetska, the drone struck between her apartment and her neighbors’ home. After the explosion, a fire broke out in the neighboring apartment. The journalist was caught in the blast wave and inhaled smoke.
“I started feeling severely disoriented and dizzy; everything was flickering before my eyes. I couldn’t even see my phone clearly and couldn’t call a taxi—my fingers wouldn’t obey me,” Hnitetska said.
Doctors diagnosed her with concussion and a traumatic brain injury. She has been prescribed treatment and will undergo additional tests.
“My district is considered a yellow zone. Journalists are allowed to work here. But sometimes it happens like this: you’re just sitting in your kitchen—and a shell lands right on you,” the journalist noted.
Olena Gnitsetska works as a freelancer for the media outlets “Misto Sontsya” and “Bilozerka.Info.”
According to the regional prosecutor’s office, nine civilians were injured on August 11 as a result of Russian shelling in the Kherson region.
The Russian military attacked the region using aircraft, artillery, mortars, and various types of drones.
As of 5:30 p.m., it was reported that two people in Chaiky and five in Kherson were injured by drone strikes.
