Russian troops have turned Kherson CHP into a target for regular shelling. Despite the fact that the power plant has been out of commission for several months and is not performing its functions, the shelling of the facility continues almost daily.
Oleksandr Tolokonnikov, deputy head of the Kherson Regional Military District , said this on live TV .
"Such fanaticism of the occupiers does not indicate an attempt to disable the power system, which is already damaged, but rather a deliberate destruction of infrastructure to complicate any repair work and leave Kherson residents without a chance for stable heat in the future.
"Yesterday an attack on Kherson CHP was recorded. Every day, either a Molniya or FPV arrives there, or they cover it with artillery," he said.
The plant officially stopped working on December 4 last year due to constant shelling. According to the Chairman of the Board of Naftogaz of Ukraine Sergiy Koretsky, the enemy is following a clear plan: systematic attacks are aimed at making the restoration of equipment physically impossible.
Due to the constant threat to the lives of repair crews, it is impossible to predict any timeframe for the CHPP to return to life. The occupants are not just destroying the energy facility, they are trying to deprive Kherson residents of hope for heat in the future by turning civilian infrastructure into a zone of eternal fire.
The city of Kherson has announced that it will pay off the multimillion-dollar debts of the population to prevent a crisis in the operation of its utilities.
According to the Kherson City Military Administration (MCA), this decision helped to avoid interruptions in the supply of water, electricity and heat to the city's residents.
According to the administration, the accumulated debts posed a threat to the smooth functioning of life support systems. The timely intervention helped stabilize the situation and prevent possible shutdowns of critical services.
The city authorities emphasized that they continue to work on the financial stability of utility companies and urge citizens to pay for utilities on time. Timely payments are a key condition for the stable operation of the city's infrastructure.
