A former prosecutor of the Black Sea District of Crimea was sentenced to 13 years in prison for treason. After the occupation of the peninsula, he headed the illegal “prosecutor’s office” and operated under Russian laws.
This was reported by the Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the City of Sevastopol.
According to the investigation, in 2014, while working in the Ukrainian prosecutor’s office, the defendant knowingly defected to the aggressor state. He agreed to head the so-called “Prosecutor’s Office of the Black Sea District of the Republic of Crimea.”
In this position, the man organized and supervised the work of his subordinates, ensured the operation of the pseudo-prosecutor’s office in accordance with Russian laws, and supported the prosecution inthe occupying “courts.”
Thus, according to the investigation, he facilitated the functioning of the aggressor state’s prosecutorial authorities on the temporarily occupied peninsula and also assisted representatives of the Russian Federation in carrying out subversive activities against Ukraine.
The court found the former prosecutor guilty under Part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine— high treason.
He was sentenced to 13 years in prison with confiscation of property. In addition, pursuant to Article 55 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the man was barred from holding positions in the prosecutor’s office and law enforcement agencies for a period of three years.
Previously, three former Ukrainian prosecutors from Crimea received prison terms ranging from 13 to 14 years for treason. Instead of leaving the peninsula after the occupation, they chose to pursue careers in the illegal prosecutorial bodies of the Russian Federation.
Additionally,Nadiya Sobeshchanska,an occupation judge from Crimeawhobetrayed her oath and sided with the Russian occupiers, was sentenced to 11 years in prison. She was found guilty of high treason.
