Three former Ukrainian prosecutors from Crimea were sentenced to 13 to 14 years in prison for treason. Instead of leaving the peninsula after the occupation, they chose to pursue careers in the illegal prosecutorial agencies of the Russian Federation.

This was reported by the Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

The guilty verdicts against the three former employees of the Crimean prosecutor’s office were handed down in a special court proceeding—without their presence.

The investigation established that in 2014, these Ukrainian citizens remained in the temporarily occupied Crimea. Instead of remaining faithful to their oath, they entered the service of the occupiers.

The defendants agreed to take up positions in the so-called “Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Crimea”:

  • head of the department for oversight of the enforcement of federal legislation; head of the division for oversight of the enforcement of economic legislation;
  • prosecutor of the Department for Oversight of the Enforcement of Federal Legislation;
  • Senior Assistant Prosecutor of Yevpatoria.

By performing these duties, they effectively supported the operation of the illegally established prosecutor’s office system on the peninsula.

In 2017–2018, the two convicted individuals did not stop there and assumed new positions within the occupation authorities. They became the “Assistant Prosecutor of the Leninsky District” and the “Head of the Department of Property and Land Relations of the Yevpatoria Administration.”

The court found all three guilty of high treason (Part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and sentenced them to 13 to 14 years in prison with confiscation of property.

Earlier,Nadiya Sobeshchanska,an occupation judge from Crimeawhobetrayed her oath and sided with the Russian occupiers,was sentenced to 11 years in prison.She was found guilty of treason.
