A court sentenced a resident of a border village in the Odesa region to 15 years in prison for monitoring Ukrainian air defense systems on behalf of the FSB and passing data to Russia for use in shelling operations.
According to the Security Service of Ukraine, in addition to the prison sentence, the court ordered the confiscation of the convicted man’s property.
According to the SBU, the man worked as a handyman in the border village of Lymanke. Russian intelligence agencies noticed him when he was posting anti-Ukrainian comments onTelegram. He was subsequently recruited.
A handler from Russia created a separate chatbot for the agents. Network members used it to send the data they had collected.
The FSB was most interested in the positions of Ukrainian air defense forces.
According to the investigation, the man monitored the Defense Forces’ mobile fire teams (units tasked with shooting down drones). He did this right in the middle of their operations, while they were repelling attacks by Russian drones.
The SBU exposed the agent in August 2025. He was detained at his home in a border village. During a search, authorities seized his smartphone, which contained evidence of his work for the FSB.
At the same time, SBU officers dismantled the entire spy network of which he was a part. According to the agency, thanks to his timely arrest, key air defense positions in the Odesa region were successfully protected.
The court found the man guilty of high treason during martial law (Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Another resident of the Odesa region also received a sentence, as reported by Intent. The court sentenced him to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property. The SBU exposed the man in October 2024 following arson attacks on a village council building and a Ukrainian Armed Forces SUV.
