A Russian court sentenced a Yalta resident to 18 years in prison for "treason"

In Crimea, a 49-year-old resident of Yalta was sentenced to 18 years in a maximum-security prison. The occupiers accused him of “treason.”

Russian security forces believe that the convicted man passed information to the Ukrainian side that could be used against Russian authorities. He was charged with espionage. 

In the occupied territories, the Russians are persecuting pro-Ukrainian residents on a massive scale. Pro-Russian Crimean blogger Alexander Talipov publishes the personal data of local residents who support Ukraine on his Telegram channels. As a result of such reports, Crimeans are being detained.

Earlier, a 16-year-old teenager was detained in occupied Sevastopol. The boy is accused of “terrorist activity.” The minor was detained for allegedly following Telegram channels belonging to a terrorist organization banned in Russia. Later, the boy reportedly filled out a form and contacted the organization’s coordinator on his own initiative. After that, according to Russian law enforcement officials, the teenager was tasked with photographing various sites in occupied Sevastopol.

Earlier in Crimea, a judge from the occupation-controlled Alushta City Court unlawfully ordered the eviction of a Ukrainian citizen from the peninsula for refusing to obtainaRussianpassport. The judge is now facing charges of unlawful deportation. The Ukrainian citizen was taken to the Rostov Region. There, he was held for six months in a temporary detention center for foreigners, after which he was forcibly transported to territory controlled by Ukraine.
