Canada is ready to provide Ukraine with naval support in the demining of the Black Sea.
This was stated by Ambassador of Canada to Ukraine Natalie Tsmitz during the second international security forum Black Sea Security Forum in Odesa.
According to her, Canada continues to support Ukraine and the whole of Europe. And, in particular, it is ready to help Ukraine with the demining of the Black Sea.
"What will be our further support for Ukraine? For example, we have the Canadian Navy, which is ready to help with the demining of the Black Sea. Yes, at first glance, it may seem that Canada is far away (from Ukraine and its problems). But we have a clear position - Canada is with Ukraine and Europe. And we all have something to think about," said Ms. Tsmoc.
On May 30, the Black Sea Security Forum, the largest geopolitical event in southern Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale war, started in Odesa. More than 500 participants from more than 20 countries are taking part in the forum. The main goal is to discuss current challenges to the security of the Black Sea region, including military threats, economic resilience and political stability.
During the event, Deputy Minister of Communities and Territories Development Andriy Kashuba said that the losses of Ukraine's port industry as a result of Russian attacks exceeded 1 billion euros. In total, about 400 port infrastructure facilities and 31 civilian vessels were damaged. In addition, 106 maritime workers were injured.
Roman Kostenko, Member of the Ukrainian Parliament and Secretary of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security, also spoke at the forum. He emphasized that Ukraine's control over Odesa, Mykolaiv and access to the sea is critical for the return of the temporarily occupied territories.
