Served in the Armed Forces, then in the Russian Federation, now in prison: the story of a traitor

A former Ukrainian soldier who sided with Russia after the occupation of Crimea was notified of suspicion of treason and desertion. During the fighting in Donetsk region, he was captured by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

This was reported by the Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office of the Southern Region.

The investigation established that in 2014, during the annexation of Crimea, the military man did not comply with the order to leave the peninsula and remained to serve the occupiers. He signed a contract with the Russian Armed Forces and rose to the rank of deputy commander of the Black Sea Fleet intelligence battalion.

During 2024-2025, the traitor took part in hostilities against Ukraine in the Donetsk region, where he was captured by the Ukrainian military.

On January 27, 2025, law enforcement officers detained the suspect. The court imposed on him a measure of restraint in the form of detention without bail.

The investigation is being conducted by the SBI with operational support from the SBU military counterintelligence.

Recently, in Kherson, SBI officers along with the SBU thwarted the plans of a defector. During the occupation of the city, the man worked in a seized colony, and after the liberation of the region tried to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was detained.

Earlier, Intent wrote that a Kherson court sentenced a postal worker who went over to the enemy and helped the Russian occupation administration. He was sentenced to 11 years in prison, but so far in absentia.

The man voluntarily agreed to take the position of "head of the postal security department" in the illegally created enterprise "Kherson Post", which operated under the control of the Russian occupation administration.

Meanwhile, the former director of a Kherson school is suspected of embezzling budget funds on a particularly large scale. This happened during the occupation. Now the woman faces up to 12 years in prison.
