The case of Major General Mykhailo Kalupin, commander of the 50th separate operational brigade of the Russian Guard, was brought to court .

This was reported by the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office.

The investigation found that from February to October 2022, the general ensured the execution of orders from the Russian military and political leadership aimed at invading Ukraine. He headed the operational command group of the 50th Brigade, which consisted of at least six tactical groups. These units conducted active hostilities in the Kherson region, using military equipment and weapons, resulting in numerous civilian casualties, including children.

Under his leadership, they occupied the region, set up checkpoints on key roads, searched and detained civilians. The detention of detainees was accompanied by torture and murder.

In addition, Kalupin took part in the suppression of protests in Kherson in the spring of 2022, organizing brutal forceful dispersals of peaceful demonstrations against the Russian occupation.

The commander is accused of conducting aggressive hostilities and violating the laws and customs of war (Part 2 of Article 28, Part 2 of Article 437, Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Earlier, law enforcement officers had already submitted an indictment against this suspect to the court. He was charged with violating the laws and customs of war after he led the violent dispersal of rallies and suppression of peaceful protests against the occupation in Kherson in the spring of 2022. The Russian faces life imprisonment.

Also, a lieutenant general of the Russian army will be tried for the occupation of Kherson region and crimes against civilians.

Meanwhile, based on SBU materials, a Russian general and his subordinates who tortured an ATO veteran during the occupation of Kherson were served with a notice of suspicion.
