Russian general accused of establishing occupation regime in Kherson region

A lieutenant general of the Russian army will be tried for the occupation of Kherson region and crimes against civilians.

This was reported by the press service of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office.

The report says that under the procedural guidance of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office, an indictment was sent to court against a lieutenant general, commander of the Ural District of the Russian Guard troops, on the fact of aggressive military actions (Part 2 of Article 28, Part 2 of Article 437 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The investigation established that from February to June 2022, the accused was sent by the highest military leadership of the Russian Federation to the territory of Kherson region to control the hostilities and ensure the occupation of settlements. For this purpose, he was appointed to the position of commander of a specially created auxiliary point of the "South" military command. The accused was under the command of at least four tactical groups, a special forces unit, an operational group and other units. Subordinate to the defendant, the Russian Guards, together with other Russian servicemen, participated in hostilities and committed attacks on civilians. Such actions led to the deaths and injuries of residents of Kherson region, including women and children. An occupation regime was established on almost the entire territory of the region. Under the leadership of the accused, checkpoints were set up, searches were conducted, people were imprisoned and vehicles were seized. He also coordinated the dispersal of peaceful protests, during which unarmed participants were subjected to brutality - they were detained, tortured and killed.

The special pre-trial investigation was conducted by the SBU in Kherson region.

Earlier it was reported that based on the SBU materials, a Russian general and his subordinates who tortured an ATO veteran during the occupation of Kherson were served with a notice of suspicion.
