A Ukrainian court has sentenced another deputy of the Sevastopol City Council in absentia for treason.

This was reported by the Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

Following the public prosecution of the Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, a Ukrainian court convicted in absentia another deputy of the Sevastopol City Council of the VI convocation for committing treason (Part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The defendant was sentenced to 11 years in prison.

Prosecutors proved that in March 2014, the convict took a direct part in a meeting of the Sevastopol City Council, where he voted for a number of illegal decisions aimed at seizing Crimea. In particular, it was about participating in an illegitimate all-Crimean referendum, supporting decisions on the independence of Crimea and the creation of the 'Republic of Crimea', as well as appealing to the Russian Federation with a proposal to accept Sevastopol as a city of federal significance and renaming the city council into the 'Legislative Assembly of Sevastopol'.

Later, the 'deputy' continued his activities in the occupation authority. By his actions, he assisted the aggressor state in conducting subversive activities against Ukraine to the detriment of its sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability.

By the decision of the National Security and Defense Council, which was enacted by a Decree of the President of Ukraine, personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions) were also applied to the convict. The special pre-trial investigation in the case was carried out by the SBU Main Directorate in the AR of Crimea.

A Ukrainian court sentenced in absentia a pro-Russian activist who joined the ranks of the illegal 'Cossack Union' to 15 years in prison.

The man was found guilty under three articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: participation in the activities of an armed group not provided for by law (part 2 of article 260), encroachment on the territorial integrity (part 2 of article 110) and high treason (part 1 of article 111).

Prosecutors proved that in February 2014, the convict voluntarily joined the ranks of the IAG 'Union of Cossacks of the Feodosia Region', subordinate to the aggressor , in the status of 'marching ataman'. As part of it, he contributed to the occupation of the peninsula.

In particular, Yaremko took an active part in blocking the 'Crimea' border checkpoint, the Kerch ferry crossing, the Kirovske military airfield and the 1st Separate Feodosia Marine Battalion of the Ukrainian Navy. All these facilities were eventually captured and taken under control by Russian troops.
