Occupants received billions from nationalization of Ukrainian property in Crimea

The occupiers have spent billions of rubles received from the so-called nationalization of Ukrainian property on repairs and improvements in Crimea. Over the past two years, the Russian-controlled authorities have seized more than 3,500 private property objects.

According to media reports, the occupiers spent 6.9 billion rubles received from the "nationalization" of Ukrainian property on various projects in Crimea. This was stated by the so-called head of Crimea Sergey Aksyonov, who specified that the funds were used to improve adjacent territories, institutions, and water supply networks. However, he did not specify for what period the money was received.
In the first six months of 2025, the occupation authorities sold 25 objects "nationalized" in previous years for more than 2.2 billion rubles (approximately 660 thousand hryvnias), as previously reported by the head of the illegal Crimean parliament, Vladimir Konstantinov.
The occupation authorities in Crimea use the illegal "nationalization" of private property as a means of pressure on "disloyal" residents. According to the NGO CrimeaSOS, in two years, the Russian Federation-controlled administration has seized about 3,500 properties, of which 1,200 were seized in 2024.
According to Denys Chistikov, Deputy Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, in 2024, the occupation authorities of the peninsula received 4.4 billion rubles (approximately 1.2 billion hryvnias) from the sale of confiscated property.
In the first six months of 2025, the occupiers sold 25 confiscated objects, receiving more than 2.2 billion rubles for the Crimean budget. Allegedly, these funds were used to develop the peninsula and support the participants in the war against Ukraine.
In 2023, the so-called head of the Crimean parliament Konstantinov reported 2,500 "nationalized" objects, including the assets of businessman Ihor Kolomoisky, the building of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, and the apartments of the wife of the President of Ukraine Olena Zelenska.
Ukraine and the international community consider such actions to be an illegal seizure of property in violation of international law. Kyiv has repeatedly stated that after Crimea returns to Ukrainian control, all acts of"nationalization" will be canceled and the property will be returned to its rightful owners.
