The Times recently published an article about Kherson, in which it pointed out that the city, which once celebrated liberation from Russian occupation, has now become a testing ground for modern methods of warfare. Russian troops have turned Kherson into an arena of terror, where drones have become the main weapon of intimidation and destruction of civilians.
The correspondents talked to local residents, doctors and government officials who told about the so-called "drone safari". Every day, before dawn, Russian drones cross the river and start hunting for civilians. They deliberately attack ambulances, doctors, police, and utility workers, as well as ordinary residents who are going to work or trying to survive in difficult conditions.
After the attacks, Russian drone operators post videos of the killings on Telegram channels, gloating over the deaths. The occupiers do not act randomly: the drones fly low, stalk the victims and attack them at close range. People in Kherson are forced to constantly hide, and going out has become deadly.
The number of civilian casualties is increasing in the city. The Russian military has been using drones to drop explosives on civilians, attacking pensioners, transportation and even hospitals. Between August and December last year, 12,000 enemy drones were recorded attacking Ukrainians, killing 64 people and injuring more than 600.
Local authorities are trying to fight the terror by allocating significant funds for drone countermeasures, but the threat is only growing. Medical workers, rescuers and volunteers are risking their lives to help the victims. Doctors say that the vast majority of their patients are elderly people who have fallen victim to targeted attacks.
Eyewitnesses and experts point to the sadistic nature of these actions: Russian drone operators are using the city as a testing ground for cruel experiments, enjoying the suffering of people. Residents of Kherson live in constant fear, as every sound of a drone's engine means a new threat.
Meanwhile, in the first month of 2025, Russians killed 16 residents of Kherson and injured 154 others.
