A resident of Yuzhnoukrainsk was charged with espionage in favor of Russia and sent to prison for passing on information about the location of Ukrainian military units.

The verdict was passed by the Yuzhnoukrainsk City Court of Mykolaiv Oblast.

According to the case file, the accused started a correspondence with a representative of the aggressor country via the Telegram messenger in May 2023. Using his mobile phone, he sent photos and coordinates of checkpoints, observation points and administrative buildings where the Armed Forces of Ukraine and territorial defense units were located in Yuzhnoukrainsk. For this, the defendant received a monetary reward on his bank accounts.

The court found that the man deliberately acted to the detriment of Ukraine's national security and understood the consequences of his actions, as the information he transmitted could be used to strike at Ukrainian military targets. Taking into account the martial law in Ukraine, the court sentenced him to the maximum penalty provided by law for such actions - eight years in prison.

In addition, a former Ukrainian Navy officer will be tried for treason and desertion. The Special Prosecutor's Office has submitted the case of the military officer to the court.

Recently, the court sentenced an employee of the Snihurivska penal colony in Mykolaiv region who defected to the enemy. In addition to the prison term, the man was deprived of his special officer rank.

The court proved that during the occupation of the city of Snihurivka, Mykolaiv region, by the Russian armed forces, the man, who worked as a senior inspector in Snihurivka Correctional Colony No. 5, voluntarily cooperated with the occupiers.

In addition, the prosecutor's office accused a 52-year-old resident of Pervomaisk of distributing materials calling for changes in the borders of Ukraine and supporting Russian aggression. The woman was an active user of the Russian social network Odnoklassniki, where she shared posts supporting Russia's actions against Ukraine, glorified the aggressors and discredited the Ukrainian military.

In early September, SBU CI detained an informant of Russian military intelligence in Mykolaiv. The agent was collecting coordinates for new missile and drone strikes on the city. The aggressor was trying to bypass air defense systems, so he wanted to find out the location of anti-aircraft missile systems and radar stations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The enemy's attention was focused on the enterprises of the defense industry of Ukraine.
