A resident of Kherson, 30-year-old Spartak Ogly, voluntarily mobilized into the Russian army and, after undergoing military training in occupied Abkhazia, went to fight in the Russian war against Ukraine. However, a week later, he was captured by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Donetsk region and received a real court sentence for treason and collaboration.
This was reported by the Center for Investigative Journalism with reference to the verdict of the Druzhkivka City Court of Donetsk Oblast on October 22.
According to the Center for Journalistic Investigations, the court found that Spartak Ogly voluntarily signed a contract with the Russian armed forces in late June 2024 while in Krasnodar, Russia. He was enlisted in the UAV company of the 7th military base of the Russian Armed Forces as a UAV operator with the rank of "private".
From the selection point for contract military service, the Russians sent him to the Russian-occupied Georgian Abkhazia, to the city of Gudauta, to a training ground. There, Spartak Ogly was assigned to the 3rd assault battalion of the 3rd assault company of the 7th military base of the Russian ar med forces and was given firearms and camouflage uniforms.
At the end of August 2024, Spartak Ogly was sent to the war in Ukraine and ordered to move towards the village of Klishchiyivka, Bakhmut city community, Donetsk region, to storm the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. After about a week in Ukraine, on September 5, 2024, Spartak Ogly was captured by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
At the court hearing, the accused pleaded guilty in full. According to him, he voluntarily mobilized to the Russian Armed Forces, took a bus on his own to a military unit in Abkhazia, where he underwent military training.
Thecourt found Spartak Ogly guilty of high treason and collaboration. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property. However, it has not yet entered into force.
