Ukrainian law enforcement agencies are trying to bring the Russian Guard general to justice. He was in charge of at least six tactical groups that conducted aggressive military operations in the Kherson region.
According to the regional prosecutor's office, a major general of the Russian Guard, commander of the 50th separate brigade, was notified in absentia of being suspected of waging an aggressive war against Ukraine. Prosecutors found that from February to October 2022, he was in charge of military operations in Kherson region.
According to the investigation, the suspect, while holding the position of "senior operational group of the auxiliary control center" of the Russian Guard brigade, carried out orders from the Russian military and political leadership aimed at invading Ukraine. Under his leadership, there were six tactical groups that conducted active hostilities, using military equipment and weapons. As a result of these actions, civilians, including children, suffered.
He participated in the occupation of the region, its complete economic and humanitarian blockade. Under his leadership, checkpoints were set up on major roads, where people could be illegally searched and detained. Some of the Russian general's subordinates ensured the imprisonment of civilians, who were later tortured or killed.
Earlier, law enforcement officers had already submitted an indictment against this suspect to the court. He was charged with violating the laws and customs of war after he led the violent dispersal of rallies and suppression of peaceful protests by Kherson residents against the occupation in the spring of 2022. The Russian faces life imprisonment.
Also, a lieutenant general of the Russian army will be tried for the occupation of Kherson region and crimes against civilians.
Meanwhile, based on SBU materials, a Russian general and his subordinates who tortured an ATO veteran during the occupation of Kherson were served with a notice of suspicion.
