Two trains from Odesa made it into the top five most popular trains in Ukraine

Two trains connecting Odesa with other cities in Ukraine ranked among the top five most popular routes in terms of the number of passengers carried during the summer of 2026.

This was reported by Ukrzaliznytsia.

According to Ukrzaliznytsia, the company carried 8.14 million passengers during the summer of 2026.

Last year during the same period, 8.07 million passengers were transported, and the year before that, 7.94 million.

Despite a reduction in the operational fleet of railcars and intensified shelling of the railway, passenger traffic continued to grow.

Ukrzaliznytsia attributes this to more efficient use of the rolling stock, specifically the launch of additional “shuttle” trains and the minimization of car downtime, particularly in frontline regions.

Among the most popular routes based on the number of searches in the UZ app were Lviv–Kyiv, Przemyśl–Kyiv, Kyiv–Kharkiv, Chełm–Kyiv, and Kyiv–Dnipro.

At the same time, two trains from Odesa made it into the top 5 by number of passengers carried. These were:

• No. 148/148 Odessa–Zhytomyr— 155,553 passengers;
• No. 38/38 Odessa–Mukachevo— 134,320 passengers.

Only three trains carried more passengers over the summer: No. 705/706 Kyiv – Przemyśl – 176,814; No. 715/716 Kyiv – Przemyśl – 171,740; and No. 104/104 Lviv – Lozova – 156,114 passengers.

In total, the two Odessa trains carried 289,873 passengers over the summer.

Ukrainian Railways (UZ) also noted that over the summer, 628,400 children were able to travel on vacation, 90,000 military personnel were able to visit their families, and 22,000 people with disabilities, including veterans, used the inclusive train cars.

As Intent recently reported, a passenger train in the Odesa region was hit by a targeted “Shahed” rocket strike. The locomotive crew was killed on the spot, while passengers and the train crew were evacuated.
