Pina Picerno, Vice President of the European Parliament, agreed to end her hunger strike. She did so after agreements were reached on a local ceasefire and the establishment of a humanitarian corridor to the temporarily occupied town of Oleshky.

This was reported by Human Rights Commissioner Dmytro Lubinets.

He noted that he had spoken with Pina Picerno and urged her to end her hunger strike in light of the progress made in resolving the humanitarian crisis in the temporarily occupied town of Oleshky.

“During our conversation, I informed her of the agreements reached regarding a local ceasefire, which was facilitated by U.S. First Lady Melania Trump. These agreements are intended to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid and the evacuation of the civilian population,” he said.

The Ombudsman assured her that he would keep her regularly informed about developments in the situation and progress in implementing the agreements reached.

According to Lubinets, the hunger strike by the Vice President of the European Parliament has begun to pose a serious threat to her life and health. He thanked her for her unwavering dedication, principled stance, and consistent support for our people living under temporary occupation.

As previously reported by Intent, U.S. First Lady Melania Trump stated that she had brokered a local ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia in Oleshky, Kherson Oblast. According to the White House, the ceasefire is set to begin on October 29, 2026.
