The Odesa Region Ranked Among the Top Four in Terms of Trademarks

The Odesa region ranked fourth in Ukraine in terms of the number of companies that own trademarks. There are 1,415 such legal entities registered here. In total, there are over 234,000 trademarks in Ukraine, 78% of which are owned by Ukrainian entities.
This is according to a study by analysts at the YouControl R&D Center, who analyzed data from the Ukrainian National Office of Intellectual Property and Innovation as of October 1, 2026.
In terms of the number of companies that own trademarks, the Odesa region is second only to Kyiv, Lviv, and Dnipropetrovsk regions. There are 9,260 such companies registered in the capital, 1,591 in the Lviv region, and 1,463 in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
In total, 78% of active trademarks in Ukraine—or 182,778—belong to Ukrainian residents. Among foreign owners, products and brands from the United States are the most represented, with 13,155 trademarks. Owners from Cyprus (4,515), Switzerland (4,090), and the United Kingdom (3,254) also hold a significant number.
At the same time, 1,299 trademarks owned by representatives of Russia remain valid in Ukraine. Another 312 have Belarusian individuals or legal entities among their co-owners. In addition, 159 Ukrainian companies that own trademarks have representatives of the Russian Federation in their ownership structure.
Analysts also identified 163 Ukrainian companies —trademark owners—that have ties to sanctioned entities. This includes both legal entities directly listed on sanctions lists and companies linked to sanctioned shareholders, ultimate beneficial owners, or executives.
Most of the companies that own trademarks operate in the trade sector (23%) and the manufacturing industry (22.9%). Among manufacturers, food and beverage companies predominate.
According to YouControl, nearly 394,000 trademarks were registered in Ukraine from 1992 through September 2026. The peak years for new registrations were 2021—with 22,450 trademarks—and 2025, when 20,279 were registered.
